The Port Pirie Art Prize is open to artists nationwide. It is conducted by Port Pirie Regional Art Gallery Inc on behalf of Port Pirie Regional Council.
The Port Pirie Art Prize aims to present an exciting exhibition that explores the regional culture, landscape and people’s lives in the Southern Flinders Ranges, and to provide Port Pirie Regional Council with a significant art collection reflecting the theme of the prize.
To be eligible for prizes in all categories, the entry must reflect the theme - Connection and relevance to the Port Pirie and Southern Flinders Ranges region based on the following criteria
- The artist lives in the region* and/or
- The subject of the work is of geographical, environmental, historical, social or cultural significance to the region
In 2010 prizes will be offered in the following categories:
Open Prize
$2500 (acquisitive) to a work reflecting the theme of connection and relevance to the Port Pirie and Southern Flinders Ranges region
Southern Flinders Artist Prize
$1000 (acquisitive) to a work by an artist living in the Southern Flinders Ranges region*
Photographic Prize
$500 (acquisitive)
Youth Prize
$250 (non acquisitive) to a work by an artist under 25 years of age
People’s Choice Prize
$250 (non acquisitive) to a work voted to be the most popular by visitors to the exhibition (announced at the close of the exhibition)
Merit Award
$250 (non acquisitive) - two merit awards of $250 each will be offered in 2010
Prize selection criteria
All entries will be judged in regard to overall excellence, originality and reflection of the theme. Entry forms must be received by Friday 6 August 2010.
